In this video, I’m going to show you a step-by-step how-to on creating a see-through cut out text in Photoshop.
For the first step, I have this background layer here,
I’m going to go ahead and label that background, so it doesn’t get confusing with my other layers.
After naming the background layer, I want to create a new layer, and I’m going to name this layer, box.
And I’m going to draw a rectangle on this box. To do that, I want to select the rectangle tool.
I want the rectangle to be white. So I’ll make sure this is white.
I’ll draw the rectangle here in the center of the frame and now I want to create a new layer.
I’m going to name that layer text.
Make sure the text layer selected. I’m going to press T, that will select the text tool.
And I’m going to change the text color to black, so you can see it on white.
I’m going to type Chicago in all caps, press ok I’m going to press the move tool up here. I’m going to move that to the center.
There we go, so now we want to create a cut out, so through this text,
we could see the background. In order to do that on a Mac, press command on the T, that control on your PC,
and you see it’s created a marquee around your text, now click the box layer,
go to layer, then go to layer mask and hide selection.
And that’s all you have to do. Now if you turn off the text layer here, you will see the
transparent background right through it and here’s another trick that you could. Use you could turn the text layer back on and change the opacity
of the text layer if having a completely see-through is too much, by turning the opacity down,
you could start seeing a little bit of the background as much as you want to but not completely transparent.
So you could put it somewhere around 50.
So then it’s easier to read. There you have it. You could now save your project and export your image.
I hope this video was helpful. Thanks for watching.
